Leewen’s visit last week was like a breath of fresh air in the middle of my monotonous life. We were supposed to have a coaching with my former teacher but it didn’t pan out, so we rehashed good ol’ Mozart. Having not played together for a month was apparent in the first few minutes, but it didn’t take too long for us to “get back on the same wavelength” (pun!) We revisited potential and notorious passages for intonation and discussed the issue of drama in his music. I’m no expert on Mozart, but I feel we can be as emotionally extroverted as if we’re playing Brahms or Tchaikovsky. It’s just that his melismatic runs and arpeggios limit the amount of emotion we can put forth in one shot. Anyways, it will always be a work in progress, and I’m sure my teacher will have lots of helpful things to say.
Aside from hard work, we like to have fun. Our friend Mona hung out with us and we eagerly helped prepare the promo kits for The WAITIKI 7. And ate ice cream to rewards ourselves. Yay for the Luna helpers!
